How to hem a shirt?

Hemming a shirt is a straightforward process but it involves some patience and precision. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Start by turning up the hem on the shirt and try it on to decide how long you would like it. Mark the desired length with pins.

2. Unpick the hem from the shirt, taking care to remove the stitches gently so that the fabric isn’t damaged.

3. Now it’s time to press the new hem. Start by pressing the hem allowance up towards the wrong side of the garment. You may want to use a pressing cloth to prevent the iron from damaging the fabric.

4. Once the hem allowance is pressed, you’ll need to use a blind hem stitch to secure it in place. This is a type of stitch that doesn’t show from the outside of the garment, so it will give your shirt a neat finish.

5. When you’re happy with the hem, you can remove the pins and try your shirt on again to make sure the hem length is correct. If it needs to be adjusted, you can use another blind hem stitch to fix it.

6. Finally, give your shirt one last press to make sure everything is neat and finished. And you’re done!
