Taking down faux locs can be a challenge because of the tight braiding of the synthetic hair. However, it can be done easily with the correct tools and patience.
Step 1: Gently dampen the locs with lukewarm water and lightly massage the scalp with a conditioner or oil to soften the hair.
Step 2: Take a wide-toothed comb and gently comb out the locs from the shaft to the ends. Do this for each loc until all of the crochets have been removed.
Step 3: Smaller locs can be unraveled by simply pulling them apart from the base of each loc. This can also be done with larger locs, but you may have to use scissors to cut off the crochets or any large knots in the hair.
Step 4: Once the locs are all unraveled, take a large crochet hook or a latch hook and brush the hair. This will help the hair to separate and the curls will start to form.
Step 5: Use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to gently detangle the hair. You can also apply a curl cream or leave-in conditioner during this step to help moisturize and detangle the hair.
Step 6: Style your hair to your desired look. You can opt to wear it as individual curls or twist it into small two-strand twists. Style as desired.
